As expected, due to the global responses during this time and the 2019 peak of $720 billion, wellness tourism expenditures plummeted to $351 billion in 2020 but recovered somewhat to $651 billion in 2022. However, these events seem to have dramatically elevated the demand for wellness technology and experiences, with wellness tourism projected to grow by 16.6% annually, reaching around $1.4 trillion in 2027 according to the Global Wellness Institute. 

  • International wellness tourists on average spent 41% more than the typical international tourist.  
  • Domestic wellness tourists spent 175% more than the average domestic tourist. 

These statistics clearly indicate that having a wellness-based business model would be expected to be far more lucrative than a business without one. The great majority of hotels and resorts around the world already offer swimming pools and spa baths as standard amenities for their guests. This data demonstrates the significant potential for value addition that these facilities offer. They cater not only to international visitors staying at larger venues, but also to domestic day visitors seeking a day of luxury, rejuvenation, and relaxation. With numerous options available to paying customers seeking these types of experiences, the market is expected to favor businesses that provide both biologically beneficial technologies and the traditional luxurious treatments that we are already familiar with.
